THE successful bidder for a row of grape vines in a Bickley Valley vineyard will not only have the opportunity to own and produce their own wine for a year, but will also provide valuable support for Muscular Dystrophy WA.
Myattsfield Vineyards is again auctioning off Row 38 at the annual Truffles for Muscles Charity Auction event this month.
Owners Josh and Rachael Davenport have been supporting MDWA since 2006.
“Who better to support than people, who through no fault of their own, face great challenges in life,” Mr Davenport said.
“They are a great bunch of people at MDWA and we get a lot more from them than we ever could give.
“It’s very rewarding to see the positive outcomes MDWA has achieved in helping people and families that live with muscular dystrophy.”
For more than a decade the Davenport’s have provided their award-winning wine for fundraisers, offered their Bickley Valley venue for events and ridden in the Dwellingup 100 mountain biking race.
The auction item has raised $54,500 since 2012.
Mr Davenport said Row 38 was the gift for someone who had everything.
“Lots of people romanticise about the industry without ever having the time or money to give it a go,” he said.
“Row 38 seemed to be the unique opportunity for anyone wanting to scratch that itch of becoming a winemaker without the complications.”
The successful bidder for Row 38 will own a row of Mourvedre vines for 12 months, gain a hands-on learning experience of all stages of the vinicultural and winemaking process and bottle about 15 cases of wine.
MDWA CEO Hayley Lethlean said the vineyards contribution helped support the WA muscular dystrophy community.
The next Muscles for Truffles Auction will be held at Kailis Bros, Leederville, on June 28.
