Callout to comment on dog laws

THE Shire of Mundaring is seeking input from ratepayers on its proposal for specified dog exercise and prohibited areas.

Council adopted a recommendation from officers who have put forward a detailed list of dog exercise areas in Bellevue, Boya, Chidlow, Darlington, Glen Forrest, Greenmount, Parkerville, Stoneville and Swan View amongst other suburbs.

Dogs would be prohibited at Blackboy Hill Memorial, Mundaring and Wooroloo Cemeteries, Lake Leschenaultia, the Sculpture Park children’s playground, within the boundaries of any other play equipment areas and the playing surface of sporting ovals during times of use or maintenance or mowing operations.

Dogs would also be banned from shire owned and managed public buildings, unless otherwise approved by the shire.

Infringements arising from the Dog Regulations 2013 (state legislation) and the Dogs Local Law (shire) range from $100 to $200, to $400 if the dog is a declared dangerous dog.

A notice will appear shortly in local newspapers and there will also be posts on the shire buildings such as the administration centre and library noticeboards.

The public will have 28 days to submit their comments or submissions which the council will need to consider after which stage they will be widely communicated to the community.
