THE green army behind a successful community campaign to stop an independent fruit and veg store being replaced with a major liquor retailer, are celebrating another success with the Swan View Fruit and Veg shop granted a seven-year lease.
Swan View resident Lynda Goldschlager said she was delighted the shop owners had negotiated a long lease with the Charter Hall Property Management Group.
“Thousands of locals have told the Shire of Mundaring, Coles and Liquorland that their preference is for fruit and vegetables over alcohol,” she said.
“We love shopping at the Swan View Fruit and Vegetable shop for fresh food and excellent customer service.
“Small business is important to the WA economy, big businesses need to be mindful of this and we are delighted our hard work and determination forced the correct outcome.”
Save Swan View Fruit and Veg Shop facebook group member Jen Adele Schelfhout thanked the community for their support.
“We will be keeping this facebook page open just in case we need to band together and fight again,” she said.
“But in the meantime we will run weekly specials and post every Friday and competitions to promote healthy eating.
“The community is amazing we couldn’t have done it without everyone’s support.”
