WITH six gold medals under his belt already, seven-year-old Tai Linnell has his eyes set on the karate big league.
The Ballajura youngster recently returned from the GKR Karate Australian National Championships where he brought home two gold medals to add to his collection.
Tai said he was looking forward to his next tournament and hoped to represent Australia at the GKR Karate World Cup in England in two years.
“I was very excited to win double gold at the national tournament in Sydney,” he said.
“When I won and when I received the medals all I could think about was to give my dad a hug.”
Father Darrell Linnell said his son showed instant talent when he started training in February this year.
“I am extremely proud of him, absolutely proud, I’m bewildered the way he blitz the field,” he said.
“We got him into it mainly for self-defense and discipline and to give him an option for a different sport.”
The pair travelled to Sydney with help from a City of Swan donation to support individual endeavours in competitive activities including sport, culture and the arts.
Currently an orange belt Tai will be graded for his green belt this weekend.
