Man assaulted in Henley Brook

MIDLAND detectives are investigating an alleged assault on a young man in the Swan Valley Oasis Resort car park just after 3am on Friday, July 27.

The young man, who required stitches to his head after the vicious attack, made a complaint to police but would not sign the statement.

Sergeant Greg French from Midland detectives said they were still pursuing the matter due to the seriousness of the attack and because it happened in a public place.

Sgt French said they had CCTV footage of the incident showing a man being hit by a man wielding an axe while another man, who was punching the victim, appeared to be holding a handgun.

He said they were treating the weapon as a firearm, not as a replica gun.

Detectives think they know the identity of the person who had the firearm but are still pursuing inquiries about the other man.

Sgt French said detectives were unsure if any other people had been involved in the incident.

If anyone has information about the attack they should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
