Midlandia is back this month

MIDLANDIA is set to return with comedians Peter Helliar, Tom Gleeson, Charlie Pickering, and Dave Callan, comedy hypnotist Matt Hale, Australian Survivor contestant and magician Matt Tarrant as well as theatrical performers 360 Allstars and Bingay out to impress.

Previously part of the Fringe World Festival Midlandia has branched out to become an independent event.

JumpClimb event director Aaron Rutter  said Midlandia would be Perth’s only chance to catch Peter Helliar live this year.

“In his 21st year of making people laugh, Peter Helliar has curated a show featuring his favourite routines from over the years – and he’ll do some new material as well because you know, he’s a proper comic,’’ he said.

“Peter Helliar has been one of Australia’s favourite comedians since his first appearance on our TV screens as a core cast member on Rove.

“He can now be seen most nights of the week as full time co-host of Network Ten’s hugely successful The Project.
Mr Rutter said 360 ALLSTARS was a theatrical performance exploring all forms of rotation and movement – the full 360 degrees.

“A performance like no other, 360 ALLSTARS reinvents the traditional circus by presenting contemporary performance styles instead of conventional circus art forms.
“Throw in a couple of break dancers, a basketball freestyler, a BMX flatlander and a Roue Cyr artist and you get an exhilarating circus performance, like nothing you have seen before.

“Joining the comedic lineup is ABC Hard Quiz host and comedian Tom Gleeson.
“Self-assured, razor-sharp and lightning-fast in his ability to take down any heckler, Tom is coming to Midlandia to prove that everything he touches turns to comedy gold.”

He said if you like your comedy whip smart and sharp you simply can not go past Charlie Pickering.
“Before taking up residence behind various TV desks, Charlie spent ten years travelling the globe as a bona fide world-class stand-up comedian.
“A rare chance to catch one of Australia’s most prolific and engaged comedians away from the cameras, Charlie Pickering is bringing his uniquely smart and insightful brand of comedy to Midlandia.
“Award-winning comedy hypnotist Matt Hale will be bringing his mesmerising and unique form of hypnotism to Midlandia, while mentalist, magician and Australian Survivor contestant Matt Tarrant will be performing his sell-out Fringe show Honestly Dishonest.’’

Other acts on the lineup include comedian Dave Callan (Rove Live, Saturday Nights on triple j) with the very popular Bingay, bingo hosted by drag-queens making its return to Midland.

Driven by the City of Swan in partnership with JumpClimb, the return of Midlandia will include food options and a pop-up bar at the events precinct at Cale St and Midland Oval.
City of Swan Mayor Mick Wainwright said the city expected the event to be bigger and better than ever.
