Kalamunda Eastern Suns player Melissa Moyle celebrated her 200th SBL game in style with a dominant win over the Rockingham Flames at home at the weekend.
The 41 point triumph was the second successive win for the Suns and keeps the side’s faint finals hopes alive.
Talia Fejo was impressive for the Suns with 23 points and 8 assists while Jennie Rintala dominated inside the keyway to score 20 points and 13 rebounds.
After the match Suns Head Coach, Tom Knowles said, he was delighted with the determination and grit shown by his players.
“It was a great win for us, it was a game we needed to win if we are to scrape our way into the eight. We are starting to see more patches of good stuff than bad stuff which is pleasing, we got running a lot more which we have been trying to work on, defensively I thought we were pretty good,” Knowles said.
Meanwhile, a strong final quarter wasn’t enough for the men’s team to claim victory over the Flames, going down 77-86. It was a disappointing third quarter for the Suns, with the lead blowing out to more than 20 points.
Rob Brandenberg turned in another strong performance for the Suns with 24 points, while Courtney Belger added a further 17 points.
The final home game for the season is on July 14 against the Lakeside Lightning will be a celebration of the Eastern Suns’ 10th anniversary in the SBL
