Wilson, Clarke play for WA Diamonds

GEORGIA Wilson of Mundaring and Katy Clarke of High Wycombe have been selected in the Lend Me WA Diamonds team set to take to the field at the 2017 Australian Hockey League in Perth next month.

Wilson, 21, said she was thrilled to be able to play with players she has grown up with.

“A lot of them are really good friends and I’m very excited to be playing with them,’’ she said.

“I play consistently with the same approach to each game whether it’s a club game, a state game or an international game but now I’m one of the three Hockeyroos in the Diamonds team there’s an extra responsibility on me and I’m willing to take that on and be a senior member of the team.

“I’m excited about the style our team has.

“Although, on paper, we’re a young team in terms of age I don’t think we are lacking anything in defence or attack.

“I think we’ve got a good group.”

Clarke said she had  decided to have the last few years off.

“Being a physical education teacher at Lesmurdie Primary School I wanted to focus on my teaching career but now I want more of a balance,’’ she said.

“It’s a lot different from when I was in the team, there’s a lot of youth coming into the team so it’s an exciting new chapter.

“Colin Brandis, our head coach, is also a breath of fresh air in terms of the style of how we play and the ideology and I think we can be in the final four teams.”

The AHL will be held in Perth from September 28 to October 8.
