Obituary for Victoria Turner.
Victoria Alexandra Mary Turner shared a love for poetry and cryptic crosswords up to the final years of her life.

A long life remembered

VICTORIA Alexandra Mary Turner held a lifetime of memories before passing away on November 7.

On her 100th birthday in 2018 she revealed her secrets to a long life were to work hard, approach problems with a ‘how can I solve this’ attitude and to simply enjoy life.

Victoria was born on December 1, 1918 in London as the fifth child of seven siblings.

From an early age she had a knack for poetry and writing, a love she would carry on alongside cryptic crosswords into the final years of her life.

After high school Victoria went on to begin teacher training in Liverpool before the Battle of Britain came and she began working as an operator on the aero dome.

On December 7, 1940 Victoria married the love of her life, Edwin James Henry Turner.

When World War II began, she volunteered as an ambulance driver and in the control room of a transmitting station.

Her daughter Pamela Julien said her mother was always the first person to volunteer her help and cared deeply for her family and the people around her.

Victoria told stories of her time working outdoors at a school during the war and having to duck into ditches to avoid bombs hurdling through the sky.

In 1948, two years after her first child Pamela was born,  the family moved to Australia.

Victoria and her family settled in Geelong, Victoria where she worked at various schools and held the position of principle before retiring.

When her husband Edwin passed away Victoria made the move to WA and bought a house in Mount Helena where she surrounded herself with roses and a garden full of native birds.

A funeral service for Victoria (Vicky) Alexandra Mary Turner is being held today, November 26.
