Baker rises to the top

SWAN View baker Matthew Mitchell took home a raft of wins at the 2021 BIEAWA (Baking Industry Employers’ Association WA) Baking Awards last month.

The Bakers Delight baker placed in the top three for 19 of the baking categories, and won 12 of them, a feat he is quite pleased with.

“I was shocked with everything I won on the day, I knew I did well but not that well,” he said.

“I’m just passionate about making good quality products and baking competitions are a fun way to showcase my skills and meet other passionate bakers.”

Mr Mitchell has been at Swan View Bakers Delight for 15 years, starting as an apprentice in 2006 and slowly moving up to become head baker and production manager.

His first place wins included the categories of fruit loaf, four strand plait, white bread rolls, fresh baguette and the top prize of ‘most successful bread exhibitor’.

“We couldn’t be more proud at the amazing awards our bakers received at the Baking Industry Awards,” a local Bakers Delight spokesperson said.

“A very proud moment for team Swan View.”
