Dig out your old photos of the Mundaring Shire region and help to preserve history while going in the running to win a $100 cash prize.
Locals are being asked to gear up for this year’s Snapped! Historic Photo Competition which is run annually by the Shire of Mundaring and Mundaring and Hills Historical Society.
Entries are now open for the competition which allows residents to submit their old photos depicting people, places and events connected to the Shire from before the year 2000.
Shire President, John Daw, said residents were encouraged to dust off their photo albums in the search of photos that showed how much, or how little, local places had changed over the past 30 or 40 years.
“The photos don’t have to be artistic. We are searching for the historical reality shown in the image to help build local digitised image collections,” he said.
A $100 cash prize is offered for the Open Award, with the photo that receives the most likes on the Shire of Mundaring Libraries’ Facebook page set to win a $100 People’s Choice prize.
Cr Daw said the competition had been expanded this year to include a Photo Caption Category. Participants can submit one photo with a maximum 30 word or less caption, for a chance to win another $100 prize.
“We have some very passionate and long-term residents with some great stories to tell,” he said.
Entries close August 23. More info on the Shire’s website.
