Election race takes off

By Claire Ottaviano

THE local government election race is now on.

At Echo News’ deadline on Thursday morning 20 City of Swan candidates, eight City of Kalamunda candidates and 15 Shire of Mundaring candidates had nominated for positions on their respective councils.

That number is expected to grow as candidates had until 4pm yesterday, September 9 to put their names forward.

Electoral Commissioner Robert Kennedy said nominating for local government was the best way for ratepayers to influence decisions affecting their local area.

“Every day your lives are influenced by your local government,” he said.

“You can influence how those things, and many more, get done by getting elected to council.”

The below list was accurate as at 10am on Thursday, September 9, more names may be added in the final tally.

Echo News will continue with local government election coverage up until election day on October 16.
