Hills Raiders smash start of season

HILLS Raiders Western Australian Basketball League (WABL) welcomed in the 2022 WABL season on Sunday at the Mundaring Arena.

With all 14 teams playing at home, it was the ideal start to the WABL campaign.

The youngest groups kicked off the morning at 9am.

Both the U12-3B and U12-2G defeated Joondalup Wolves convincingly 42:30 and 60:31.

WABL coordinator Billie-Jo Thompson said despite missing out on a win, the second U12-4G team displayed outstanding determination.

“The team put in a great effort for what is the first season for most of these girls,” she said.

The U14 age group was also just as successful, U14-2G defeated Cockburn, U14-5G Green defeated Suns, U14-5G Grey defeated East Perth and the U14-5B defeated Redbacks.

Although they played a gutsy game, the U14-3B lost to East Perth.

The U16s all had wins, U16-2G defeated Willeton and the U16-4G, U16-2B and the U16-5B all defeated Redbacks.

The U18-3B could not secure a win over Lakeside Lightening but the U20B Championship team were successful, winning against the Redbacks in a close game 86:82.

“Team morale and community spirit is high, and we move into the second week with all teams playing away,” Ms Thompson added.

“WABL 2022 season has officially started and Hills Raiders WABL are ready.”
