HIGH Wycombe train station is now one step closer to completion, as the paint dries on a nature-themed mural decorating its eastern wall.
Painted by artist Haylee “Fieldey” Fieldes with the assistance of 12 local young people, Homecoming represents the journey of residents returning home.
“We tried to tell the story of what this line means, starting with geometric, industrial type animals representing the city and slowly moving to more natural, organic lines representing the Hills and Kalamunda,” Fieldey said.
“I just took the design ideas of the kids – which were all about the environment and native plants and animals – and created it into a flowing narrative about coming back to their nature filled home.
“We really wanted it to be youth led so the kids were with us for the entire process, brainstorming, designing and actually painting.”
The process began with the workshop in March, with the bulk of the actual painting done in July and August.
The 40m long mural sits at the end of the High Wycombe terminus station, which when completed in early 2022, will form the final stop of the Airport line.
