Mural vandalism angers community

By Claire Ottaviano

MIDVALE property owner Jim Morgan is offering a $1000 reward for information leading to the apprehension of the “criminals” who defaced a piece of artwork on the side of his building.

The 35m wide and 7m tall mural was commissioned and painted by South Guildford artist Jarrad Martyn in July 2019 in an effort to beautify the once blank grey wall on the corner of Morrison Road and Roe Highway.

Mr Morgan had a few choice words for the alleged offenders not suitable for print.

“If somebody is hungry and they pinch something I think, okay, but to do something for no good reason, to spoil something that somebody else has put so much effort into, I think is criminal,” he said.

“I’ve received such lovely community feedback about it but I’m sorry for Jarryd, he is a gifted young man without a doubt who doesn’t deserve to have his work defaced like that.”
