Sunscreen with a twist wins top show prize

A FORRESTFIELD mother-of-three has won the top stall holder award at the Royal Show for her business that encourages children to be sun smart whilst protecting the environment.

Stephanie Bream was awarded the President’s Pick for Best Exhibitor at the Perth Royal Show last week for her product Sun Dust Bio Glitter Sunscreen, in her first year appearing at the show.

“It was such a lovely surprise to win the award,” she said.

“We have never done an event as big as the Royal Show before, with thousands of people attending our stall each day.

“To be chosen out of a hundred experienced exhibitors was an honour.”

Ms Bream said her innovative product came about through a moment of frustration one day last year.

“As a mum of three daughters under the age of six, I found it hard to get my kids to wear SPF50+ sunscreen at the beach or while playing out in the sun,” she said.

“Then one day I had an epiphany – I mixed Christmas glitter with sunscreen, and my children loved it.

“So much so that when the glitter started to fade, they happily applied more.”

However, Ms Bream was aware of the harmful microplastics that glitter posed to the ocean and coral reefs and researched to find a plastic-free bio-glitter and environmentally friendly formula that would be safe to wear while swimming.

“I initially just wanted to make something that was fun, protected my children, and was environmentally safe but in doing so, stumbled on a solution that has been incredibly successful, which was very lucky,” she said.

Her product line has now expanded to cosmetics, towels and skin care.

The award came with a grant of $600 towards her stand at the Perth Royal Show next year, a social media marketing promotion and a trophy.
