PERTH’s iconic rally race festival kicks off its 17th year next week, with 64 drivers (12 local), hitting the tarmac.
Make Smoking History Targa West, will take place from September 16 to 19, across Ellenbrook, Whiteman Park, Parkerville, Toodyay, Chittering, Bullsbrook and the legendary Kalamunda Zig Zag.
Event director Ross Tapper said there was a wide calibre of applicants at this year’s event, with 15 rookie racers joining the field for the first time.
“It’s safe to say that West Australian competitors are making the most of it with all of our state’s top rally drivers in the entry list,” he said.
“It’ll mean tough competition and a great show for spectators,” he said.
Competitors from the Echo News catchment include John O’Dowd (Gooseberry Hill), Paul Crute (Bickley), Peter Rullo (Gooseberry Hill), Mark Greenham (Forrestfield), David Hodges (Maida Vale), rookie Dylan O’Connor (Maida Vale), Tim Wolfe (Kalamunda), Chris Beerens (Jane Brook), Mike Civil (Wattle Grove), Paul Pernechele (Gidgegannup), Mick Caratti (Glen Forrest), and Brett Morse (Maida Vale).
