BIRDLIFE WA will host a free bird walk along the trails of Kalamunda’s Jorgensen Park this Saturday, October 25 to commemorate their former member Brice Wells.
The Brice Wells memorial walk is a celebration of Mr Wells’ life spent inspiring others to love and protect Australia’s remarkable birdlife.
The walk begins at 8am, followed by morning tea hosted by the City of Kalamunda at 10am.
During the walk, attendees will learn about Kalamunda’s birds as well as how to spot them.
Mr Wells dedicated his life to sharing the wonder of Australia’s birdlife, inspiring others to see birds not just as species to spot, but as “weird, whacky and absolutely wonderful” creatures worth cherishing
Together with his wife, Gail, Brice served as warden at the Eyre Bird Observatory, helping transform it into a thriving hub for research and education.
Their next achievement was establishing the Broome Bird Observatory in 1988 in a world renowned migratory bird habitat.
Returning to Perth, Brice continued his advocacy through BirdLife Western Australia, where he founded and chaired the Community Education Committee, bringing the joy of birds to schools and community groups.
The Brice Wells memorial walk honours his enduring legacy.
Attendees are advised to dress appropriately for the weather, wear sturdy shoes and bring binoculars, a drink bottle, and their curiosity for the wild world Mr Wells loved.
Binoculars will be provided for any participants requiring them.
Registration for the event is essential.
