GUNNERS’ Day is on again on Sunday November 2 in Stirling Square, Guildford.
Hosted by the Royal Australian Artillery Association of WA (RAAAWA) and the Guildford Association, the day honours and remembers all those from the 38th Battery of the Australian Field Artillery who have died in service for their country.
Guildford Association (GA) President Claire Scanlan said St Matthew’s Garrison Church was custodian of the flag of the 38th Battery Field Artillery, which was based in the Guildford area before departing for the battlefields of WWI in 1913.
“Gunners’ Day includes a parade, wreath laying ceremony and church service conducted by Katrina Colgate of St Matthews Anglican Church, in Stirling Square (the Garrison Church of the RAAAWA),” Ms Scanlan said.
“This unique regimental occasion acknowledges the service given by the men of the Artillery in both WWI and WWII, and more recent engagements.”
The parade begins at 10am at St Matthew’s Church, with attendees being asked to arrive at 9.50am.
The GA will also have a display of historic Gunners’ Day military memorabilia at the Guildford Library leading up to the event.
Ms Scanlan said those people or groups wishing to lay a wreath should contact the RAAAWA and forward their details to John Blylevens at: johnblylevens@gmail.com
