THE Cook and Albanese Labor governments have announced $3.3 million funding for the construction of a renewables training hub at North Metropolitan TAFE’s Midland campus.
The facility features a 25-metre working at heights tower, two donated Vestas nacelles, two 2.5-kilowatt wind turbines, and a monitoring room.
North Metropolitan TAFE will deliver new wind power skill sets from 2026, giving around 350 students a year the opportunity to gain experience working on industry infrastructure.
The renewables training hub will be critical to developing the state’s clean energy workforce and will be central to the delivery of a range of training and workforce initiatives to be developed by the Clean Energy Skills National Centre of Excellence, a joint initiative between the Cook and Albanese Labor governments under the National Skills Agreement.
Skills and TAFE Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson said the Cook Labor government’s record TAFE investment was delivering modern training facilities to provide a pipeline of workers.
“Collaborating with the Commonwealth enables us to do even more as we prioritise jobs, health, and housing, and ensure we have the skilled workforce required as we become a renewable energy powerhouse.”
The project was funded through $3.24m from the commonwealth’s TAFE Technology Fund (TTF), with the Cook government contributing an additional $100,000.
