WOODBRIDGE House is again the venue for the Summer Gala Soiree on Sunday, January 25 from 5pm to 7pm.
The event continues to benefit our talented and hard working WAAPA students through the Friends of the Academy Committee through grants for showreels and secondments.
The outstanding line up of Western Australian talent includes musical director and accompanist Adrian Soares (multi award-winning UWA Graduate) who has held this position in two of the previous five concerts.
Popular baritone Devon Lake who performs with WA Opera and is also a Melba scholarship recipient is also returning from the past two soirees.
Also returning from last year’s soiree is Tenor Vin Trikeriotis who too performs with WA Opera and prior to his tenor days was a heavy metal rock star, travelling the world for 10 years with Tempest Rising.
A new addition to the line-up is a young artist with WA Opera Lovers, Baritone Sam Claxton.
There will be three Sopranos this year, with Eimear Foley, who has two degrees, Classical Voice and Masters in Music Theatre from the University of New York (all performers are WAAPA Alumni), plus Eimear is also a qualified medical doctor.
Claire Condipodero performs with WA Opera and has also performed in Christmas in the Domain (Sydney) for the past two years. Finally, Amy Fortnum who has two bachelor degrees (Classical Voice and Music Theatre), not only performs, but writes, produces, directs her own productions and has performed in Edinburgh Fringe Festivals.
The repertoire will be light classical along with popular music theatre, finishing off with a bracket of Australiana favourites.
Emphasising the Australiana theme, the Freeze Frame Opera truck will again be used as a stage.
The concert is family friendly picnic style with BYO blankets, chairs (preferably low) food and drink, with shade for all. Damian from Café Cava will be on site with his van for the purchase of hot or cold drinks.
The setting for movies and TV shows, the National Trust’s Woodbridge House is nestled between the Swan River, Guildford Grammar and Governor Stirling Senior High School, where there is ample free parking.
