WITH St Patrick’s Day just around the corner, the Swan Districts Senior Citizens Association (SDSCA) is holding a free lunchtime concert featuring Irish singer and entertainer Patrick O’Hooligan on Thursday March 12.

O’Hooligan (aka Fred Rea) will make you smile with jokes, songs and stories from the Emerald Isle and Australia.

With his ever ready guitar and easy-going approach, O’Hooligan quickly gets his audience involved in singalongs, as well as providing an excellent solo singing performance.

Presented in his unique style his performance will appeal to everyone, even if you’re not Irish.

His songs range from Irish classics like Galway Bay and I’ll Take You Home Again Kathleen to Australian staples such as Waltzing Matilda and Home Among the Gum Trees.

O’Hooligan will also tell a few jokes and yarns about his old days in Ireland.

SDSCA special projects officer Caroline McCarthy said the group put on a concert once a month as part of the SDSCA’s Thursday activities.

“We wanted to open this one up to seniors in the community and hopefully get them to attend future events too,” she said.

Founded in 1966, the SDSCA is a not-for-profit organisation focused on providing social interactions and outings for people over 55.

Operating from the Bellevue Baptist Church three times a week, the group runs three separate clubs: indoor bowls, bingo and the Sunshine social club.

The free concert is on March 12 at Midland Town Hall from 12.30pm to 1.30pm and is supported by the City of Swan.
