KALAMUNDA Primary School’s Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) is calling on the community to support a fundraiser aimed at building a bus shelter, with hundreds of students currently exposed to the weather during pick-up times.
More than 350 students attend the school, with families often gathering in outdoor areas without adequate shelter from rain and sun at the end of the school day.
The P&C is hosting a quiz night fundraiser on Saturday, June 20 at the Lesmurdie Club in an effort to raise funds for the project, which aims to improve conditions for students and parents waiting outside the school.
A P&C representative said the shelter would provide a safer and more comfortable environment for families during busy pick-up periods.
“Students and families are currently exposed to the elements while waiting, particularly during hot or wet weather,” she said.
The group hopes the fundraiser will bring the community together while also contributing towards a practical upgrade to the school’s facilities.
City of Kalamunda communications officer Katrina Bergin said responsibility for a school-based bus shelter sat with the Department of Education.
The P&C is continuing its fundraising efforts and is encouraging community members to get involved, with funds going towards the design and construction of the proposed shelter.
Organisers say the project would provide long-term benefits for students, families and the wider school community.
