IN their first game of the season in the Football West Belt Up amateur soccer premier division Swan United drew 0-0 against Ballajura AFC at Kingfisher Park.

Swan United coach Lee Taylor said although he was disappointed his team didn’t take the three points, he had to give Ballajura a lot of credit.

“They adjusted the way they play and changed their shape after the night series and they got their reward,” he said.

“We still created some good chances in both halves but ultimately, we were not clinical enough in front of goal.”

Both sides had their chances with Lucais King and Daniel Clarkson going close for the hosts, before Vishal Amunugama hit the cross bar in the second half for the visitors.

Swan pressed late looking for the winner, but they were thwarted by a great save from Andrew Craster to deny Liam Merrigan from six yards out with a couple of minutes left.

Swan United president Ben Kelly said the club was firmly focused on returning to the state league, with a strong commitment to developing local talent and keeping players within the community.

“Our goal is to get back into the state league so our local kids can compete at a high standard while staying close to home,” he said.

“We’re building a strong, sustainable club with a fantastic junior base coming through.”

With continued support from the Swan Italian Club and the wider local community, Mr Kelly is confident the club is on the right path.

“Swan United has a proud history, and with our backing, there’s no reason we can’t get the club back to where it belongs,” he said.

He said spots were still available in the ladies and men’s senior/social team. For more information please email: admin@swanunitedfc.com
