RESIDENTS have raised concerns about the removal of verge trees as part of a development in High Wycombe, questioning when replacement planting will take place.
The issue was raised during public question time at a recent City of Kalamunda council meeting, where residents asked about the loss of established trees and the timeframe for their replacement.
Community members expressed concern about reduced canopy cover in the area, including the loss of shade and impacts on the streetscape.
Questions were also raised about how long it would take for replacement trees to grow and restore the area’s tree cover.
In response, the City of Kalamunda advised that responsibility for verge trees in subdivision areas typically sits with the developer and is managed through subdivision approval conditions.
The city said requirements for replanting are generally included as part of those approvals, with planting carried out at different stages of the development process.
It also noted that tree establishment can take time, depending on the species planted and local site conditions.
The development forms part of ongoing subdivision activity in High Wycombe, where works have included the removal of existing vegetation.
Residents’ concerns highlight broader community interest in maintaining tree canopy and streetscape amenity as development continues in the area.
