SEVERAL community groups in the Perth Hills have received funding as part of the latest round of Community Rivercare grants.
Fourteen volunteer groups shared more than $655,000 through round nine of the program, which supports projects aimed at improving the health of waterways across the Swan Canning catchment.
Among the successful recipients were local groups including the Jane Brook Catchment Group, Friends of Jorgensen Park and Friends of Banyowla Clifton Hills.
Projects funded through the program include foreshore revegetation, weed control and erosion prevention works along local waterways.
The Jane Brook Catchment Group will undertake restoration works along sections of Jane Brook, while Friends of Jorgensen Park will continue bank stabilisation efforts as part of a living stream project.
Other projects across the catchment will focus on improving habitat and supporting natural regeneration in areas affected by degradation.
Environment Minister Matthew Swinbourn said the grants would help protect waterways for future generations.
“Each project funded through the Community Rivercare Program contributes to a healthier, more resilient Swan Canning catchment,” he said.
The program, now in its ninth year, supports community-led environmental projects and aims to improve the long-term health of the Swan and Canning river systems.
