UPGRADES to 74 bus stops across the City of Kalamunda are underway as part of a statewide accessibility program.

The Public Transport Authority has begun works across suburbs including High Wycombe, Forrestfield, Maida Vale, Lesmurdie, Gooseberry Hill and Kalamunda.

The upgrades aim to improve accessibility and make public transport easier to use for a wider range of passengers, including people with mobility aids, seniors, parents with prams and those with vision impairment.

Improvements include level boarding areas, tactile ground surface indicators, better connections to footpaths and upgraded bus stop poles and information modules.

The works are being carried out across March and April, with nearby residents notified ahead of time to minimise disruption.

The program forms part of broader efforts to ensure bus stops meet national accessibility standards and improve connections between residential areas and public transport.

Some residents have welcomed the upgrades, while others have called for additional features such as shelters and seating.

Community members raised concerns on social media about exposure to weather at certain stops, particularly for school students and older residents.
