Police are investigating a fatal Gidgegannup crash while arson squad detectives have charged a Middle Swan man over a Midvale Molotov cocktail house fire.

Gidgegannup fatal major crash investigation

MAJOR crash investigation section officers are seeking the public’s assistance for information following a fatal crash that occurred in Gidgegannup during the early hours of Sunday, May 10.

About 2.15am, a black Toyota Land Cruiser was travelling in a westerly direction on Lilydale Road when, near the intersection of Toodyay Road, the vehicle left the road and struck a tree.

The driver of the vehicle, a man in his 20s, sustained critical injuries in the crash and died at the scene.

Major crash investigators are urging anyone who saw the crash, or who saw the black Toyota Land Cruiser travelling in the area prior to the crash, to contact Crime Stoppers online or by calling 1800 333 000.

Anyone with dash-cam or mobile phone vision relating to this crash is asked to upload the vision directly to investigators.

Man arrested after 2025 Midvale house fire

ARSON squad officers have charged a man as part of their ongoing investigation into a house fire that occurred in Midvale on Saturday, August 9, 2025.

About 2am, WA Police and Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) responded to reports of a fire at a residence on Wellarton Street.

It will be alleged the accused man was one of four individuals involved in the incident, during which Molotov cocktails were thrown through a bedroom window of the home, igniting furnishings inside.

A woman and three children were sleeping in the room at the time and one child sustained minor burns and received medical treatment.

A 41-year-old man from Middle Swan was charged with criminal damage by fire, and committing an unlawful act or omission with intent to harm (endangering life, health or safety of any person).

He is due to appear before the Midland Magistrates Court on June 9.

The investigation is ongoing and investigators urge anyone with any information or vision relating to this fire, to contact Crime Stoppers online or by phone on 1800 333 000.

Rewards of up to $25,000 are available for information that leads to the identification and conviction of an arsonist.
