MIDLAND TAFE will come alive with music, culture, community connection, and celebration on Wednesday, June 3 from 9am to 1pm as staff and students host a free major NAIDOC Week event celebrating this year’s theme, “50 Years Deadly”.
Presented by Koolark and TAFE event management students, the free community event will celebrate the history, culture, achievements, and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, while bringing together students, staff, families, local organisations, and the wider Midland community.
The celebrations will feature a full morning of live entertainment, cultural activities, food, games, health services, and community engagement.
One of the highlights of the event will be a live performance by BOOX Kid, the 2025 WAM vocalist of the year.
A proud Noongar (Wadandi Bibbulmun) artist, BOOX Kid works across songwriting, music production, theatre, opera, and sound design, and is widely recognised for supporting and promoting First Nations voices and storytelling through music and performance.
The event will also feature special guest Nyima Tucker, a proud Aboriginal woman, model, content creator, and advocate who uses her social media platforms to celebrate culture, identity, self-expression, and representation for young Indigenous Australians.
Guests will have the opportunity to hear Nyima share her story and connect with attendees throughout the day.
Activities across the event include live dance and music performances, the “Deadly Games” sports competition with prizes, tote bag painting and creative activities, hair braiding, delicious breakfast burgers and native-inspired food, community stalls and cultural activities, free health and wellbeing information, Foodbank WA involvement and family-friendly activities and entertainment.
The event has been designed to encourage cultural learning, community connection, and celebration in an inclusive and welcoming environment.
