VETERAN Chidlow Cougars player Matthew ‘Barbie’ Mallaby recently notched up his 300th senior game of footy for his beloved club at Chidlow Oval against Pickering Brook, a club milestone.
Barbie was all smiles as he, along with his kids burst through the banner to kick off the special occasion on a crisp, but sunny afternoon.
It was a testament to the long-time player to see lots of family, retired team mates and friends on hand to celebrate the first man to hit the 300 game mark for Chidlow.
The then freshfaced Barbie joined the Cougars in 2009 after playing his junior footy at the Hills Hawks.
A tenacious ball getter who enjoys getting his hands dirty at the bottom of the packs, he compliments this with a skilful right foot and a sticky set of hands.
He’s also a terrific mark for his size.
Barbie said his favourite memories over almost two decades are playing in premierships, players trips, but mostly being with a bunch of mates who all love a laugh and having a kick together.
“I would also like to thank my wife Cherie and the kids for their support over the years,” he said.
There’s very few things Barbie hasn’t achieved in his 18 years wearing the yellow and black including best first year player 2009, Kaz Dymek Medalist (Fairest & Best) 2010, 2012, 2015, runner up F&B 2016, 2018, 2019, leading goal kicker 2024, life membership 2017, captain 2013-18, coach 2017-23, treasurer since 2023, 11 grand finals and five premierships.
