COMMUNITY members, volunteers, business operators and government representatives gathered recently to celebrate the official opening of Midland Meals’ new Midland community space.

The event marked the unveiling of a community-painted sea container, transformed into a vibrant and welcoming space through the creativity and dedication of local artists Brianna Dawson and Julie Winmar.

The artwork on 56 Morrison Road reflects community, connection and support for those experiencing hardship.

Midland Meals Founder Loren Pratt spoke about the importance of community connection and the organisation’s commitment to supporting people experiencing food insecurity and hardship.

The event also recognised the invaluable contribution of Midland Meals’ volunteers, whose dedication makes it possible to provide meals and support 365 days a year.

A special presentation was made to the two artists in recognition of their contribution to the project, with bouquets presented as a token of appreciation for their work in creating a lasting community asset.

The ribbon was officially cut by City of Swan Mayor Tanya Richardson, MLA Hannah Beazley, Mr Pratt, and the artists, symbolising the collaboration between community, government, local business and volunteers that brought the project to life.

A Midland Meals spokesperson said they would like to sincerely thank everyone who contributed to the success of the project and the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“In particular, special thanks go to Shane and Leanne Willcox of SLW Transport Pty Ltd, who generously shouted coffee for all attendees by covering the tab for the coffee van, helping create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for guests throughout the afternoon,” they said.

“The new community space will serve as a lasting reminder of what can be achieved when people come together with a shared purpose supporting some of the most vulnerable members of our community with dignity, compassion and care.”

The spokesperson said the organisation also acknowledged the many sponsors, volunteers, supporters, local businesses and community members whose generosity and encouragement made the project possible.
