TAKE a journey to discover the works of young Western Australian artists in HyperVision 2026 on display at Midland Junction Arts Centre from Saturday, July 11 to Sunday, August 9.

HyperVision is an annual youth art competition and exhibition which forms part of the Hyper Series, a youth-led program supporting young people to create, curate and celebrate arts and culture in their community.

The City of Swan’s Hyper Series initiative also includes Hyper Festival and the Hyper Miniseries, a large-scale music festival and series of in-school music performances, providing young people with an opportunity to develop new skills and meet other likeminded people as they work together on community arts and cultural events.

Each year the Hyper team opens applications to young artists between the ages of 12 and 25, to share their creativity and interpretation of the theme. In 2026, artists were encouraged to present their unique interpretations of the theme ‘journey’ across categories including photography, sculpture, traditional media, fashion/jewellery, short film and experimental media.

Whether referring to a metaphorical or physical journey, this year’s theme provides an opportunity for young artists to present their creative skills and explore expressive interpretations of their own journeys as artists and young people of the world.

HyperVision is a wonderful opportunity for young people to share their work with a wide audience in a professional arts setting. Whilst the competitive aspect of the exhibition allows for artists to be acknowledged for their work through a juried prize.

Previous HyperVision participant, 2021 overall winner Yasamin Khadembashi, has since completed professional residencies and exhibited in numerous group and solo exhibitions, showing how opportunities such as these offer a great platform and build confidence for those hoping to pursue a career in the arts.

Mundaring Arts Centre artistic program manager Jess Knight said MAC was delighted to once again partner with the HyperVision team to showcase young artists works to a professional standard they might otherwise not have the opportunity for outside of school, university or independently.

“By supporting young people to express themselves through annual opportunities such as HyperVision, young artists are celebrated for their contribution to our cultural dialogue, and we continue to cultivate the next generation of creative minds and makers,” she said.

HyperVision 2026: Journey is at the Midland Junction Arts Centre, located at 276 Great Eastern Highway, Midland. Opening hours are Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 5pm, Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 3pm, and closed Monday and public holidays.
