Theatre vandalism a concern

Dear Echo News,

I look forward each Friday to picking up a copy of the Echo – full of interesting letters, articles of what’s happening in our area.

However, I cannot describe my disappointment when coming across the article KADS Theatre vandalism increasing (Echo News, July 10) about the increase of vandalism that is occurring at the KADS Theatre, and the refusal of the City of Kalamunda to provide or allow some security CCTV.

However, the article said that ranger patrols would increase.

How this wonderful venue, entirely run by volunteers, should be left, without any CCTV, for vandals to do what they like is an abomination.

Since we moved into the hills over 40 years ago, going to the various plays at KADS has been such a highlight.

What do others think about perhaps starting a GoFundMe page so the volunteers can go ahead with all the additions, improvements and most importantly, CCTV to protect this heritage listed facility?

Yet another blot on the City of Kalamunda record.

Acts of Kalamunda kindness

Dear Echo News,

With so much negativity in the news lately, I was moved to write about how much I truly appreciate the people who make up our local Kalamunda hills community.

Our local footpaths are very undulating and steep.

When I am taking my 80-year-old husband out in his wheelchair, navigating these paths can be quite a challenge.

Yet, time and time again, the kindness of our community shines through.

Complete strangers – including teenagers – frequently stop to ask if we are okay or if we need any help.

Last year while in our driveway my husband had a fall and pulled me over with him.

Two young men driving past witnessed our fall and immediately stopped to help us up.

They also helped to  get us into the house and settled, with one of them even giving me a hug.

This wonderful spirit makes me incredibly proud to live here.

Thank you to everyone who looks out for their neighbours.

Your small acts of kindness make a massive difference.
