THE Cook Labor government has committed an additional $9.55 million towards the delivery of the proposed High Wycombe Community Hub, set to be a major community facility for the growing High Wycombe station development precinct.

The proposed High Wycombe Community Hub is a joint investment between the Cook and Albanese Labor governments and the City of Kalamunda, with the project receiving $30m in state funding and $30m in Commonwealth funding in 2022.

The City of Kalamunda has also committed $10m towards the project.

Located on state-owned land within the Metronet East Redevelopment Area adjacent to High Wycombe station, the proposed community hub will include an aquatic centre, community centre, gymnasium and café.

The proposed hub will provide important community infrastructure for Perth’s growing eastern corridor while supporting the ongoing transformation of the area surrounding High Wycombe station.

The facility is expected to act as a catalyst for further development surrounding the station, building on work underway through the Metronet East program to create new housing opportunities, jobs and community amenities around major transport infrastructure.

Construction is expected to commence in early 2027 and the facility is anticipated to open in late 2028.

City of Kalamunda Mayor Margaret Thomas said the additional funding was a significant milestone that brings the proposed High Wycombe Community Hub another step closer to becoming a reality for the community.

“I thank the state and commonwealth governments for their continued partnership with the City of Kalamunda.

“The hub will provide generations of residents with modern aquatic, recreation and community facilities while supporting the continued growth and transformation of High Wycombe as a thriving connected centre.”

Forrestfield MLA Stephen Price said the government was pleased to be committing further funding to the High Wycombe Community Hub which will be a great facility for local families close to public transport.

“A new community centre, aquatic facility, gym and café will provide the space for our community to get involved, stay active and keep connected.

“It will further activate the High Wycombe Station development precinct and be a future focal point for residents.”

Planning and Lands Minister John Carey said he was working with all levels of government to establish a liveable, well-serviced community in the High Wycombe station development precinct.

“Our additional funding guarantees the delivery of High Wycombe Community Hub, which will be a major community asset for Perth’s eastern suburbs.

“The hub will complement the significant investment already made through Metronet and help create a vibrant, well-connected precinct with housing, community facilities and recreational opportunities.

“Alongside DevelopmentWA’s work across Metronet East, this project is helping unlock the full potential of land around High Wycombe station and support long-term growth in the area.”

Sport and Recreation and Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said the High Wycombe station has been a gamechanger for the community, providing eastern suburbs locals access to reliable and affordable public transport close to home.

“Metronet has also unlocked huge opportunities to deliver new community facilities and housing in High Wycombe that will help further activate this area and ensure it’s a great place to live for local families.

“Investing in projects like this is part of the government’s commitment to delivering quality infrastructure and services for our growing communities.”
