FABRIC, fibre, and personal history will be highlighted at another MJAC exhibition this month as seven leading contemporary artists gather for Ravel, a major new exhibition exploring how textiles capture the threads of human identity.

Running from August 23 to November 1 in the West Gallery, the exhibition brings together works by Jacky Cheng, Eva Fernández, Maggie Hensel-Brown, Wendy Lugg, Zali Morgan, Lisa Mori, and Jan Mullen.

The showcase originated from the centre being selected as the host venue for the Australian Lace Guild’s national conference this September, prompting the artistic team to curate a show that presents fibre arts from a fresh perspective.

Using mediums spanning needle lace, beading, weaving, printmaking, indigo dyeing, tapestry, photography, and tinsel, the featured artists weave together stories of diaspora, ancestral homelands, resilience, and transformation.
