A RARE behind-the-scenes look inside Western Australia’s emerging screen industry will soon be offered to the public when the brand-new Perth Film Studio opens its doors to public viewing on September 11 and 12.

The two-day open event at the recently built Malaga facility aims to introduce students, families, and community members to the state’s expanding film and television production capabilities.

The facility is currently hosting its first major project, Two Birds, a drama series produced for streaming service Stan and British network ITV.

The event on Friday, September 11 will focus primarily on secondary students, offering educational insights into career pathways across various technical and creative trades within screen production.

Industry professionals will provide information on entry-level roles and technical fields, including set construction, sound engineering, line producing, and digital animation.

On Saturday, September 12 the second part of the event will open more broadly to the public, featuring live production demonstrations, informational panels, and family entertainment.

Within the studio complex, a dedicated behind-the-scenes zone will allow attendees to observe each stage of the working shoot through the live production of a music video.

Minister for Creative Industries Simone McGurk said the rare look inside Perth’s screen industry will open up Western Australia’s creative future.

“Perth Film Studios represents a major investment by the Cook Labor government helping grow our economy, create jobs, and put WA on the map as a global screen production destination,” she said.

“We want Western Australians to feel proud of the creativity happening in their own backyard and to enjoy a fun, hands-on day that brings our world-class screen industry to life.

“Whether you’re a student, a local, a Western Australian creative looking to break into the industry, or simply curious about how it all works, this is your chance to step inside and learn more.”
