WOODLUPINE Primary School student Jade Freval has claimed first place in the Year 6 category at the inaugural Darling Range Learning Community STEM Expo.

Jade received the award for developing an innovative Aboriginal language web application combining technology, creativity and cultural learning to produce a digital solution with a meaningful connection to the community.

She was one of five Woodlupine Primary School students selected to represent the school at the event.

All five students confidently presented their individual projects and explained the ideas, research and development behind their work.

The theme of the 2026 Expo was ‘Ideas That Grow: Start small. Think big. Make a difference’ and students from Years 5 to 8 were challenged to identify a real-world problem and develop an original STEM-based solution that could benefit their community.

The projects required students to identify a problem, research possible solutions, plan, test and refine their ideas and could include physical prototypes, working models or digital solutions.

Projects were assessed on the clarity and originality of the idea, evidence of design and development, application of STEM knowledge, potential community impact and the student’s ability to communicate their work.

Jade’s Aboriginal language web application impressed the judging panel and earned her the Year 6 trophy and a selection of prizes.

A spokesperson said the school was extremely proud of Jade’s achievement and the efforts of all five participating students for their creativity, commitment and outstanding contribution to the expo.

“Our students represented Woodlupine with confidence, enthusiasm and pride. They were able to explain what they had created, the problem they wanted to address and how their ideas could make a positive difference,” they said.

“The Expo gave our students a genuine opportunity to think creatively, solve problems and share their learning with a wider audience. Jade’s achievement was an outstanding result and wonderful recognition of the thought, effort and innovation behind her project.”
