LAST Wednesday 170 Year 5 students from primary schools across the Perth Hills descended on Hartfield Park for the annual hockey carnival hosted by Kalamunda Districts Hockey Club.
Held at the end of the winter season, the carnival is a wonderful opportunity for club volunteers to introduce hockey to a new generation of potential players.
This year 36 volunteers gave their time in this worthwhile endeavour.
Students from Lesmurdie PS, Falls Road PS, Maida Vale PS, Walliston PS, Gooseberry Hill PS and Kalamunda PS, spent the day learning about everything hockey and playing a modified seven-a-side competition.
Hockey WA community and growth lead Jess Edwards and her brother Matt joined goalkeeper for the 2026 Perth Thundersticks Hockey One team and participants in a fun day of games and good sportsmanship.
Now in its ninth year, the carnival remains a popular event on the calendar for schools belonging to the Stirk Schools Sports Association.
“We appreciate the ongoing support of local schools in the promotion of hockey in the City of Kalamunda,” Kalahockey junior development officer Richard Guthrie said.
“We look forward to our 10th year in 2027, which will coincide with our club’s 60th anniversary.”
The event was also attended by Bullwinkel MP Trish Cook, Forrestfield MLA Stephen Price and Phil Twiss MLC.
More than 170 students competed in the annual carnival.
