WA’s best tree climbers will take to the treetops in Mundaring for the 2026 WA State Tree Climbing Championships, showcasing speed, strength and extraordinary skill in one of the state’s most exciting sporting competitions.
The free event is hosted by the Arboricultural Association of Western Australia (ArbWest), with the championships taking place on Saturday, November 14 at Perth Hills Discovery Centre, Mundaring.
Thirty-five competitors will tackle five disciplines – speed climb, work climb, aerial rescue, ascent and throwline – competing for the chance to enter the Australian National Tree Climbing Championships in Perth in April 2027, and potentially progress to the World Championships.
“People are often amazed when they see what these climbers can do. It’s fast, it’s exciting and it takes an incredible amount of skill,” ArbWest vice president and event organiser Nick Hayes said.
“We want families to come along, enjoy the action and discover something they may never have seen before.”
Visitors can enjoy the climbing action alongside a kids’ climbing wall, face painting, food trucks and arboricultural machinery displays. Entry and children’s activities are free.
Supported by around 50 volunteers, sponsors and exhibitors, the event is expected to attract a huge crowd and will also give visitors the chance to learn about careers in arboriculture.
ArbWest hopes to spread the important message of caring for our trees, wildlife, growing and looking after our tree canopy for generations to come.
The event will be held at the Perth Hills Discovery Centre in Mundaring on Saturday, November 14 from 9am to 3pm.
