A Dayton father and his best friend will cycle from Margaret River to Perth on Saturday, November 18 to raise vital funds for Epilepsy WA’s epilepsy support services in honour of his young son.

Beau Jackson and his mate Phil Mortimer have estimated it could take them about 10 hours to ride the 270km but hope they can finish it in nine.

After a quiz night earlier this month already raised $12,000 they are on target to beat the $11,945 they raised last year when they rode from Busselton to Perth.

Beau and Krystle Jackson’s four-year-old son Leighton was diagnosed with epilepsy about two years ago.

“It has been an absolute rollercoaster for our family,’’ the Jacksons said.

“Never ending hospital trips, neurologist appointments, blood tests, eeg scans, numerous trials of medication.

“Throughout it all, our Leighton is the happiest and most caring little boy, who has the biggest heart.”

The Jacksons, who also have a six-year-old daughter Sharleigh, said the ride gave them something to look forward to, something they could give back to their Epilepsy WA family and something they could control.

This year’s ride was meant to take place earlier this month but was postponed when Mr Jackson hurt his back.

On Wednesday, Mr Jackson said he was now boxing, doing cardio and was back on his bike in preparation for the ride next month.

Epilepsy WA relies heavily on community support.
