A GROUP of charity riders have raised  more than $26,000 for a cancer charity after off-roading from Mundaring to Albany on personally customised postie motorcycles.

The seven riders, assisted by one support driver, followed the MundAl offroad track almost 1000km through the state’s southwest to raise funds for the Kids Cancer Support Group (KCSG), which supports the families impacted by cancer.

The MundAl1000 inaugural ride was organised by Chittering resident Dan Manester, and saw the men leave Mundaring Weir at 9am on Sunday, October 22 and arrive at the Brig Amity in Albany at 6.30pm on Thursday, October 26.

Mr Manester has lost several family members to cancer and said he always wanted to do something to help anyone  dealing with cancer.

So, with that in mind he shared the idea with his close friend Cobey Brader one day at the Whitfords Brewing Co, which would become one the ride’s main sponsors.

The pair brought both friends and family on board, with Dan’s brother Barry acting as the support driver. Barry transported the fuel and water for the five-day trip, but everything else was carried by the riders on their postie bikes.

The money raised has been given to the Kids Cancer Support Group (KCSG) charity to go towards helping the children and families of the oncology ward at Perth Children’s Hospital.

Mr Manester chose KCSG because, as it is a smaller charity, he thought all the donations raised by the MundAl1000 would make a bigger difference to them, rather than to a larger charity organisation.

“A lot of people tend to forget that families are going through hell trying to support that person with cancer,” he said.

“Not only is KCSG for the kids but a huge part of it is for the mums, dads and siblings who are trying to hold the family together.”

Of the $26,000 raised, $8000 came from a mix of event and corporate sponsors including Whitfords Brewing Co, Vangoh creative, Spice Digital Imaging, Mx Store, Fig’s Garage, Trendsetter, Theo Sartzidis, Picasso print and design, Artform, Vivian’s real estate, IPI Packers, Instant windscreens and tinting, The Exchange Bar, JDK legal services, Sherlock Homes Group, FinanceMyHome.com, Seacrest Homes, WA Trade Academy, Beldon Satellites and Cable, and Pascucci – with the remainder from community donations.
