THE Bullsbrook quarantine centre housed 81 people who needed emergency accommodation during the Mariginiup bushfire, which destroyed 18 homes.
Seven days after the bushfire there were still 18 people staying at the Bullsbrook Centre for National Resilience, according to the Department of Communities – the agency responsible for managing evacuation centres.
The Mariginiup bushfire, which started near the intersection of Boundary Road and Bustard Road was reported at 1.09pm on Wednesday, November 22 and burnt about 1900ha of land.
At 1.07pm on the same day as the bushfire started the Parks and Wildlife Service at the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions closed the Gnangara off road vehicle area in the Gnangara state forest in the City of Swan due to high fire danger rating.
A Department of Communities spokeswoman said through discussions with the state government the federal government agreed to the Bullsbrook centre being used as an emergency accommodation option for impacted people.
