A HERITAGE listed café in Kalamunda is still open despite part of its roof collapsing.

The collapse occurred at Dome in Kalamunda last Friday morning and no injuries were reported.

The building is owned by the City of Kalamunda and leased to Dome. Mayor Margaret Thomas said the city has engaged a contractor to repair the roof.

Ms Thomas said the building was closed on Friday for the afternoon as an entire roof inspection was conducted which confirmed the repair works would  be isolated to one area.

“The city is working with the contractor and the tenant to ensure Dome remains open for trade while works are undertaken,” she said.

“We are committed to working swiftly and efficiently to minimise disruption to customers.

“We appreciate the community’s understanding and cooperation during this process.”

The building which houses the café is on the state’s heritage register and was formerly the site of the Kalamunda police station.

Prior to this, it housed the local road board, a precursor to the City of Kalamunda before the city relocated in 1978.

Dome café took over the building in 2012 and restored the building as well as refitting the building for café purposes, according to the heritage register.
