OFFICERS from the rapid apprehension squad have charged a 28-year-old man after an evade police incident that occurred on Tuesday, February 27.
About 10.20am, a woman driving a green Mazda hatchback stopped on the side of Gnangara Road to use her mobile phone.
Upon stopping the vehicle, it will be alleged the accused approached the Mazda and threatened the woman with an axe, demanding she exit the vehicle.
A short time later, the man was sighted driving the stolen green Mazda by police on Roe Highway in Forrestfield.
It will be further alleged the driver failed to stop and continued driving. Following communications with officers on the ground, police air wing tracked the green hatchback as it travelled through surrounding suburbs including, Lexia, Ellenbrook, Forrestfield, Lockridge and Beechboro.
The vehicle came to a halt on Amazon Drive in Beechboro after crashing into a fence. The accused attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by police.
A 28-year-old man from Lockridge has been charged with several offences including three counts of stealing, two counts of driver fail to stop, property damage, armed robbery, aggravated assault occasioning bodily harm, common assault in circumstances of aggravation or racial aggravation, attempted armed robbery, breach of protective bail conditions, trespass, steal motor vehicle and drive recklessly, no authority to drive (never held), driver failing to comply with direction to stop, reckless driving to escape pursuit by police, attempted escape from lawful custody and obstructing public officers.
He appeared before the Midland Magistrates Court on Wednesday, February 28 where he was remanded in custody to reappear on April 2
STRIKE Force Vulcan officers are investigating a series of five scrub fires that occurred in the Noranda area over the weekend on Sunday, March 3.
The first fire is believed to have started about 5am in the area along the north bound lanes of Tonkin Highway near Benara Road, with the other fires following in a northerly direction.
Department of Fire and Emergency Services attended and extinguished the fires.

OFFICERS from the major crash investigation section are appealing for information in relation to a serious crash that occurred in Bullsbrook on Wednesday, February 28.
About 4.05pm, a silver Suzuki Baleno hatchback travelling west on Neaves Road, left the road and collided with a tree.
A seven-year-old male passenger received serious injuries and was airlifted to Perth Children’s Hospital. The 36-year-old female driver received minor injuries.
