TASTE of Chittering 2024 is on this Sunday, as a free-to-enter event celebrating Chittering’s food, wine, beer and produce with live music, market stalls, and other attractions.
The event will be held at the Nesci Estate Wine Farm in Lower Chittering on Sunday, August 25 from 10am to 3pm.
A Shire of Chittering spokesperson said the funding from the regional grants scheme was a boost to help cover the increasing cost of events so they could remain free.
“The funding will go towards providing more hands-on experiences in the form of workshops and classes for both adults and children,” they said.
“We want to include an Indigenous bush tucker experience and keep the event entry free with free activities once inside.
“This includes activities for kids such as a petting zoo and facepainting, along with other free activities like tastings, cooking classes and workshops.”
Culinary attractions include cooking demonstrations and workshops by Slow Food during the afternoon, Gather Foods tastings and talks which focus on using Indigenous ingredients, and tart filling and decorating for kids with Bindoon Bakehouse and Berry Sweet.
Children will also be able to enjoy the Lions Club train, reptiles from Animal Ark, Old McDonald Farm’s petting zoo, face painting, balloon twister, as well as arts and crafts with the Chittering Art Society.
Grayson Dennis and Gilbert are scheduled to be on stage, entertaining with live music, with a bar area and food vans available to complement the free tastings.
It is one of 73 regional events that have received support from state government through the 2024-25 Regional Events Scheme.
The annual funding round supports smaller and developing regional events, helping to attract new visitors to Western Australia’s five tourism regions and stimulate local economies.
Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti said hosting vibrant and dynamic events in WA’s regions was essential for tourism in attracting visitors, while also supporting jobs and communities.
“I encourage all Western Australians to get out, explore our state and support our regions through attending these great events,” she said.
The Taste of Chittering will be a strictly dog free event due to Nesci Estate’s status as an active cattle farm, with the exception of service dogs.
