The state government has provided funding to carry out further improvement works to the York off-road vehicle site.

The Shire of York will receive a $60,000 grant for stage two works at the popular Oliver Battista York Motocross Track.

This is in addition to the $100,000 spent on stage one upgrades at York and Ledge Point, which were completed earlier this year.

The stage two works at the York off-road vehicle area (ORV) include installing a new accessible and compostable toilet facility.

Completed stage one works made improvements to the tracks, existing amenities and signage, and created earthworks and vegetation buffers.

These investments follow the recent introduction of the Control of Vehicles (Off-road Areas) Amendment Bill 2024, which will enable the online registration of ORVs. Fees collected from registrations will support further investments in establishing and improving ORV areas.

Local Government Minister Hannah Beazley said so many more Western Australians enjoyed off-road motorsports and government was committed to investing in off-road vehicle areas to support this growing sport.

“It’s important for riders to have dedicated areas to ride, and areas for younger riders to develop their skills.

“I’m pleased these investments will support the Shire of York to deliver works to ensure the areas are more family-friendly and accessible.

“Thank you to the Off-Road Vehicles Advisory Committee, the local governments and rider groups, like Recreational Trailbike Riders’ Association, for their work supporting ORV areas.”
