SWAN View were too good for Chidlow in the HFA preliminary final with the 20.17 (137) to 5.7 (37) victory seeing them fill the remaining spot in this weekend’s grand final.

At the start of their 100-point win over the Cougars the Swans flew out the blocks with successive goals, Rudy Riddoch showed all of his evasive skills as he weaved his way through the contests to deliver the ball forward for Kane Higgins to mark and goal.

Caleb Butler was having an enthralling battle with Jayden Bathurst in the ruck, although it was the smaller Swans on-ballers who were making better advantage of the contested ruck contests, Bradley Jetta managed to find enough room to clear the ball out to his team’s advantage.

The Swans managed to keep the Cougars scoreless in the first quarter while themselves having had 11 shots on goal for a five-goal return.

The Cougars were having enough trouble trying to slow down the rampant Swans without losing on-baller Blake Offer to a hamstring injury.

Then Luke Elliott was restricted to the goal square with a leg injury, although they somehow managed to slow down Swan View’s scoring rate.

They scored their first goal of the game after some good work out of the centre when Matt Mallaby combined with Steven Schorer to get the ball forward for Shane Fitzgerald to mark and goal.

The third quarter was by far the best for Chidlow as they managed to keep pace.

Adam McKinlay went forward from his earlier on-ball role to kick three goals, while Luke Elliott managed another one from the goal square.

Shannon Fernando seemed to be enjoying his different role deep in the backline as he ran the ball out on more than one occasion.

The Swan View coach gave his players a rev up at the last break and they certainly answered the challenge that was thrown down.

Joseph Butler, Jake Higgins and Jackson Ryan were impassible in the backline repelling every Cougars advance.

The Cougars backline was under constant pressure as the ball kept coming back in from the centre ball ups.

Kane Higgins added to his goal tally to end the game with six.

Rudy Riddoch danced around the opposition as he went forward to kick a goal.

Jaxon Crook managed to find space 25m from goal where he marked and converted.

An eight-goal-to-nil last quarter will have Swan View primed for this week’s grand final against Pickering Brook at Mundaring oval on Sunday.
