REHOBOTH Christian College will be performing Animal Farm, their first public theatre production in more than two decades on Monday and Tuesday, November 4-5 at the Kalamunda Performing Arts Theatre.
The play, based on George Orwell’s famous novel and adapted for the stage by Ian Wooldridge, is a political satire set on a rural English farm.
Orwell’s original story was a deliberate allegory for the rise and corruption of communism in 20th century Russia, but it’s a timeless tale whose messages about power, politics and propaganda remain as relevant as ever.
The production is directed and performed by the Year 11 general drama class and their teacher Mr Dougherty, who has taught drama at Rehoboth since 2018.
It features a small ensemble cast playing multiple characters, with dance, original music alongside some well-known songs, and animated scenography.
Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start and tickets are $17 for adults and $12 for students.
There is a 10+ age recommendation due to the mature themes of the material.
Mr Dougherty said the production is ambitious, modern and fun, and would be a great opportunity for anyone interested in theatre to come and watch some up and coming talent.
Rehoboth is an independent school committed to distinctly Christian education.
