LABOR says if re-elected it will commit funding for the resurfacing of basketball courts at Greenmount Primary School.

WA Labor candidate for Midland Steve Catania promised the $66,000 funding alongside Premier Roger Cook during a visit to Greenmount PS.

Mr Catania is replacing Michelle Roberts who is retiring from state politics after 28 years.

Greenmount primary principal Natalie Astley and representatives from the school’s P&C were also in attendance.

Greenmount Primary School caters for 374 students from kindergarten to Year 6, with a varied academic program that is supported by specialist visual art, music, physical education and Japanese programs.

Mr Catania said he was thrilled to commit to the election promise for local students and families within the Midland electorate.

“Active play is an important part of learning for kids, and this redevelopment will add to what is already a great school community,’’ he said.

“Greenmount Primary School has served its community since 1913, so I am proud to make this commitment.

“We know this project is important for the Greenmount community, and I look forward to it benefitting local families for many years to come.

“I look forward to seeing the students and staff at the school make full use of the fantastic new facility.”
