SHIRE of Mundaring has secured more than $456,000 in state government funding to carry out bushfire mitigation works in several local reserves and verges over the next 12 months.
The works aim to make neighbourhoods safer by reducing fuel loads, improving access for fire crews, egress for residents and helping protect homes, schools and community spaces.
Shire President Paige McNeil said the program is part of a long-term approach to bushfire risk across the shire.
“Many of us live close to bushland, so we know how important it is to prepare well before summer,” she said.
“These works will help lower the risk of bushfires and make it easier for firefighters to respond if one does occur.”
Work will start in August and run through to June 2026.
Areas include Darlington, Chidlow, Mt Helena, Glen Forrest, Hovea, Stoneville, Sawyers Valley and Mundaring.
Treatments will include slashing, mulching, chemical application and firebreak maintenance. Some areas may require traffic management during works.
Residents can follow the progress of works in their area and sign up for updates through the Shire’s Engage Mundaring web platform.
